Straight-leg scrub pants

The straight leg is the easiest cut to size across a large team and still the default in most hospital programs. We make it with a drawstring, full elastic or yoga-style waistband and hem it to the inseam lengths your staff need.

Jogger scrub pants

Jogger scrub pants keep hems off the floor and out of spills, which is why they now anchor many brand collections. We set the cuff so it sits comfortably over socks or compression stockings and add the thigh and back pockets your spec calls for.

Wide leg scrub pants

Wide leg scrub pants read as fashion-forward and feel cool on long shifts, but they only work when the length is right, so we grade inseams carefully. Brands often pair them with a fitted top to balance the silhouette.

Cargo scrub pants with extra storage

Cargo pockets on the thigh give room for shears, tape and a phone when a top's pockets are full. We position and size them to the tools your team carries, and bartack the corners where loaded pockets pull hardest.

What should you specify on custom scrub pants?

Custom scrub pants come down to four decisions: the leg, the waistband, the pockets and how much room the fit gives when staff bend and kneel. Staff spend whole shifts squatting, lifting and walking in their pants, so a weak choice in any of the four shows up within the first week of wear.

Leg

  • Straight leg is the traditional cut, an even width from hip to hem, and looks tidy in front-of-house settings.
  • Jogger tapers to a knit or elastic ankle cuff, so hems stay off the floor.
  • Wide leg gives a relaxed, flowing line that many wearers find cooler over long shifts.
  • Bootcut and flare widen slightly below the knee to sit over clogs and nursing shoes.

Waistband

A mid rise suits most wearers. Choose a drawstring, full elastic, elastic with an internal drawstring, or a wide yoga-style knit band. For unisex programs, elastic with a drawstring fits the widest range of bodies.

Pockets

Cargo pockets on the thigh hold shears, notepads and phones. Side slash pockets are the minimum; back pockets and a pen or utility pocket are common additions. A secure thigh phone pocket is one of the details nursing staff ask for most.

Gusset

A diamond gusset at the crotch adds room for squatting and takes stress off the center seam. Combined with a stretch fabric, it is the biggest comfort upgrade over a basic pull-on pant.

Jogger, straight leg or wide leg: which cut should you choose?

Jogger scrub pants suit fast, floor-level roles because the cuffed hem stays clean and dry; straight leg scrub pants suit the widest range of bodies and settings; wide leg scrub pants suit staff who want a cooler, relaxed fit. Many programs offer two cuts in one color so the team still matches.

Tip: If your team wears compression socks, check jogger cuffs on a sample during a full shift. A cuff that feels fine at fitting can dig in by hour ten.

Which waistband works best on scrub pants?

The waistband that works for most employer programs is elastic with an internal drawstring, because it adjusts to the widest range of bodies and stays put through a shift. Wide yoga-style knit bands suit premium women’s pants, while a drawstring alone is simple and adjustable but tends to loosen.

Which fabric holds up best in scrub pants?

Medical scrub pants take more abrasion than tops at the seat, knees and inner thigh, so fabric choice starts with durability and laundering. Poly-cotton blends survive hot and industrial wash cycles; polyester-rayon-spandex blends feel softer and stretch with movement, and are the norm in premium scrub collections.

Darker colors such as navy, black and charcoal hide wear and stains longer, which is why many employers standardize pants in a dark shade and let tops carry role colors. Stretch blends prefer moderate dryer heat, so match the fabric to how your pants will be washed. Our scrub fabric guide compares blends, weaves and fabric weights in more depth, and we confirm the fabrics available for your order at quote stage.

Which scrub pants suit each role?

Each role needs a pant built around its movement and mess: emergency and surgical staff want joggers with cargo pockets and a gusset, outpatient teams want a clean straight leg, and veterinary and home health staff need dark, reinforced pants. Use this table as a starting point for a multi-role program.

Scrub pants for women

Scrub pants for women are usually shaped through the hip with a higher back rise and a contoured waistband, while unisex pants are cut straighter. Offering a women’s fit next to a unisex fit in the same color and fabric keeps the team matched while each wearer gets a pant that sits properly.

Women’s cuts are also where inseam choice matters most: one length for a whole team leaves petite staff stepping on hems. Collect length preferences with sizes, and check our scrub size chart for how cuts and sizes compare across the XXS to 5XL range.

How does a scrub pant order work?

A scrub pant order runs in five stages: brief, quote and sample, approval, production and reorder. New designs are sampled so fit and movement can be tested on real staff before the full run, and approved patterns stay on file so every reorder is cut the same way.

  1. 01

    Brief

Send the style (ours, or your design or tech pack), fabric, color, branding and an estimated size and length breakdown.
  2. 02

    Quote and sample

For a new design we make a sample so you can test fit, pockets and movement.
  3. 03

    Approval

You sign off on the sample, any branding and the size split.
  4. 04

    Production

Your pants are cut, sewn and finished in our Los Angeles factory.
  5. 05

    Reorder

Patterns stay on file so reorders match the first run.

Ask us for current lead times; they depend on fabric availability and order size.

What determines the cost of custom scrub pants?

Pricing for custom pants depends mainly on the fabric, the quantity per style, how complex the pant is, any decoration and whether you add custom labels and packaging. No prices are published here, because each order is quoted on its actual fabric, features and quantity.

Cost driverHow it moves the unit priceHow to keep it in check

Wholesale scrub pants

Wholesale scrub pants are plain pants sewn from consistent patterns, so uniform shops, schools and resellers can reorder and get the same fit as the stock already on their shelves. Branded pants start at about 50 pieces per style, while wholesale quantities are confirmed when you send an inquiry.

Nursing and allied health programs often specify one pant color and cut for every student; see how we supply CNA and medical assistant programs. For blank programs across several garment types, see our wholesale medical scrubs service.

Private label scrub pants for brands

Private label scrub pants drive repeat purchases for a scrub brand, because staff wear through pants faster than tops and come back for a fit they trust. Fit consistency between production runs is the most important thing a brand can protect, so approved pant patterns stay on file for every reorder.

Which details make scrub pants last?

Pants last longer when the predictable failure points are reinforced: bar-tacks at pocket corners, a gusset to take stress off the crotch seam, and waistband elastic that recovers after washing. These details add little to the cost of a pair but noticeably extend its life.

That matters most where the employer pays for replacements. Knees and seat are the next weak spots; a durable fabric in a dark color hides the wear that does happen.

How should you wash scrub pants?

Pants keep their color and stretch longest when washed inside out, with drawstrings tied, away from chlorine bleach and dried on moderate heat. Pants worn in clinical areas may fall under your facility’s laundering policy, so share these points with staff or your laundry service.

  • Wash dark pants inside out to slow fading at the seat and knees.
  • Tie drawstrings loosely before washing so they do not pull out of the casing.
  • Avoid chlorine bleach on colored and stretch fabrics; it weakens elastic and spandex.
  • Use moderate dryer heat for stretch blends and elastic waistbands.

Facility laundries follow CDC guidance on laundry in health-care facilities, which describes hot-water cycles of at least 160°F (71°C) for 25 minutes, far tougher than home washing. Tell us how your pants are laundered so we can suggest fabric that copes.

What to send us for a scrub pant quote

A complete scrub pant quote needs the cut, waistband, fabric, color, sizes and lengths, any branding and the quantity per style. Sending the whole list in the first message lets us price the order quickly and confirm whether a sample is needed.

  • Cut (straight, jogger, wide leg, bootcut) and whether you need cargo pockets
  • Waistband type and preferred rise
  • Fabric preference or laundering method
  • Color, with a reference or swatch if pants must match existing tops
  • Size breakdown, including petite, regular and tall lengths if needed
  • Any branding: a small thigh logo, a waistband label or private label tags
  • Quantity per style (about 50 pieces minimum) and target delivery date

What mistakes do buyers make when ordering scrub pants?

The most common scrub pant ordering mistakes are ignoring inseam length, putting everyone in joggers, choosing light colors for messy roles, leaving out a phone pocket and approving fit on a single person. Each one is cheap to fix at the brief stage and expensive after a full run.

  1. Ignoring inseam length

One length for a whole team leaves tall staff with short hems and petite staff stepping on theirs.
  2. Choosing joggers for everyone

Some staff dislike cuffs, and some roles look better in a straight leg. Two cuts in one color solves it.
  3. Light-colored pants for messy roles

Ceil blue and white pants show stains quickly in veterinary, ER and home health work.
  4. No phone pocket

Without a secure thigh pocket, phones migrate into tops and lab coats, which then sag.
  5. Approving fit on one person

Have staff of several sizes and heights wear samples through a shift, including at least three washes, before you approve.

Pair your pants

Most teams order pants with matching tops in the same fabric and color, so the set looks uniform across a shift. Pants and tops are separate styles, each with its own 50-piece minimum, and can be planned together in one brief.

Match your pants with custom scrub tops cut from the same fabric, and add a long-sleeve underscrub for cold units.

Questions about scrub pants

Need something not covered here? Ask our Los Angeles team and we’ll answer with options for your order.

Ask our Los Angeles team

Can the same pant come in a women's fit and a unisex fit?

Yes. A women's fit and a unisex fit can be cut from the same fabric and color so the team still matches. Each fit is its own pattern, so we confirm at quote stage how the two fits count toward the 50-piece minimum per style. Send the split between fits with your size breakdown.

Can you make petite and tall lengths?

Inseam options are part of the specification we confirm at quote stage. Tell us how many petite, regular and tall pairs your team needs in your size breakdown and we will confirm what we can produce within the 50-piece minimum per style.

Do you put logos on pants?

We can, though most programs brand only the top. A small embroidered logo on the thigh or near a side pocket works well. Avoid placements near the seat or knee, where fabric flexes and wears fastest, and check that embroidery does not stiffen stretch fabric where it needs to move.

Can I buy scrub pants without a matching top?

Yes. Pants are a style of their own with their own 50-piece minimum. Some employers standardize pants in black or navy and let tops vary by role or department, which simplifies inventory. A neutral pant also works with tops your team already owns.
